This application functions like the Quick Response Code (QR code). This application uses `Augmented reality platform’ and texts, videos, photos, graphics, logos can be viewed. The magic of augmented reality where the real digital merge on a platform to let you experience a whole new world.
Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one. Augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as sports scores on TV during a match. With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable. Artificial information about the environment and its objects can be overlaid on the real world. (Reference: Wikipedia)

The app is really exciting. You open the app and scan the item with insight logo, you are redirected to a video/image related to the item you scanned. The app is slow at times and it might take some time to load the video. The quality of video is really bad. They can improve on this as they already have the high quality videos of all their news related articles. I would love to see similar recommendations related to the video/image that i have viewed through the app. The loading time and image/video quality would surely give the app five stars. However the concept is good and it might take the news reading to the next level. As most of the users are migrating to higher end phones, its inevitable for the traditional news media to accept the change and move forward.
The Indian news paper industry is worth Rs.18,000 crores and its one of the booming sector. The competition is high and you need to stand out to survive. This could be a way to interact with your readers more and engage them with your newspaper more.
Is there any similar applications from news papers in India. If so i would love to hear from you back. (Post your comments below and let me know if there is any similar app)

The video quality has been improved. We can view HQ videos in insight now. Still the video loading time is poor, once you scan the insight logo, the app is taking some time to load the video/gallery associated with it. As i said the recommendations or similar features might help the app because as of now once the video is over i am moving away from the app. There are no recommendations or any other feature that makes me to spend more time on the app except the share feature.
