Flipkart has earlier announced that their big billion day campaign is on Oct 6th through various social media campaigns, contests and by creating a separate landing page exclusively for big billion day.

The war started today on the leading newspaper daily, Times of India.

Snapdeal vs Flipkart

Flipkart started their sales at 8 AM today morning and there were reports of website getting crashed because of the huge traffic. The website was delivering the 500:Internal server error, indicating the site is crashing when someone attempts to make a purchase.

But the baap of eCommerce Amazon cleverly chose a different track to hijack these opportunities. When users typed bigbillionday.com on their web browser, you are landed on the amazon.in website! (Not available now)

Social Media Backlash

Flipkart’s big billion day is facing consumer backlash on social media. The tweeples gone crazy calling the eCommerce major a Flopkart!

According to the website Mission sharing knowledge, most of the product pricing were inflated and the discounts were not real.

How successful was Big Billion Day?

According to a research done by Simplify360, negative sentiment around Flipkart’s sale reached 12. 53 per cent from 4.76 per cent just a week ago, decreasing the positive sentiment from 24.48 per cent to 16.46 per cent. (source: exchange for media)

In a statement, Flipkart founders said that they had achieved sales worth $100 million in gross merchandise value (GMV) within 10 hours of The Big Billion Day Sale with nearly 1 billion hits. But does that mean the big billion day is successful?
